Step 3: Image and stage settings

Live Image Quality Assurance (LIQA)

Next, you will be able to choose the quality of data you want to collect. For better data collection, we have developed a tool called LIQA (live image-quality assurance). It is a visual assistant that helps users take standardized images by indicating the right head position and lighting intensity. You can see how it works here:

LIQA e-commerce and LIQA lab

You can choose between LIQA lab and LIQA e-commerce.

Choose LIQA lab if you need to collect highly standardized, high-quality images with strict requirements for the head position in the frame and proper lighting. It detects not only the presence of a face in the frame but also its distance, rotation, and image resolution, and it allows you to collect uncompressed PNG data.

LIQA e-commerce also detects the position of a head and its rotation, but it is less strict on the lighting conditions, has limits to the size of collected images (2000x2000 px), and only collects JPEG data.

If you don’t have strict requirements for selfies or don’t want to use LIQA for some reason, you can always choose to collect photos with the native camera. But please note that, according to a study utilizing LIQA module supervision, 87% of images had sufficient quality for further analysis if LIQA was used, while only 32% of images had sufficient quality when data-quality improvement measures included only written and schematic instructions for participants. Read more about LIQA on our blog.

You can also choose the data compression settings between uncompressed PNG, 100% JPEG, 75% JPEG, and 50% JPEG.

LIQA auto-capture

You can enable the LIQA auto-capture option. This option allows users to take a picture automatically after a 3-2-1 countdown if all the criteria are met and the person is staying still.
